Indian Geotechnical Society- Indore Chapter is organizing a National Seminar on "Geotechnical Problems - Case Studies" (NSGPC). The chapter has organized 8th National Seminar in sequence in the year 2008, along-with Geotechnical day Celebration to mark birthday of Er.Karl Terzaghi, the father of Geotechnical Engineering.
One has to make the systematic study of the causes of failure and suggest the remedial measures based on scientific analysis, supported by observed data. Importance of geotechnical properties of underlying strata and investigations should also be addressed. The importance of often crude but realistic case histories can hardly be overestimated in demonstrating the practical utility and reliability of soil mechanics. However,today's applications are often far more complex. Hence, in the complex problems of today, the need for observations and documentation in case histories is no less than it was a half century ago. Indeed,the complexity of many modern projects demand some form of the use of the observational method,and the results deserve being included in authoritative case histories.
